Learn violin at Cirencester Music Academy on Dyer Street with Deborah. Our violin lessons welcome children from age five, teenagers and adults, including complete beginners and players returning after a break.

Develop bow control, technique and musical confidence through pieces that suit your experience and interests. Weekly violin tuition can include classical music, folk, film themes and preparation for grades or performances.

    Develop a clear sound and comfortable technique

    Begin with holding the violin and bow, finding a comfortable playing position and making your first notes. Develop rhythm, bow control and accurate finger placement as you work on melodies and complete pieces.

    Music reading, scales and listening skills are introduced alongside practical playing. As you progress, explore phrasing, expression, duets and the skills that help you play with other musicians.

      Weekly violin tuition

      Regular lessons take place weekly at the same time and place. If you cannot find a suitable time, tell us which days and times work for you.

      Start with a paid trial lesson

      Try a lesson with no obligation to continue. Choose your lesson length and the weekly time you would prefer for regular lessons.

        Book the day and time you would want for regular lessons. We hold that weekly space for three days after your trial.

      Deborah welcomes children from age five, teenagers and adults to violin lessons in Cirencester. Discover her classical training, love of folk and film music, and experience of ensemble playing below, with lessons shaped around your interests and goals.

      Violin Teacher — Ages 5+

      Hi, I’m Deborah! I’m a violinist, pianist and chamber musician with many years of performing and teaching experience.

      My violin lessons are shaped around the music that inspires you and what you’d like to achieve. Whether you’re completely new to the violin, working towards grades or playing for enjoyment, we’ll develop your technique and confidence through music you love.

      I studied with Rosemary Rappaport, founder of the Purcell School, and Winifred Roberts of the Royal Academy of Music, before completing a BA (Hons) in Music at Durham University.

      Alongside my classical background, I love exploring folk, film music and the pleasure of playing with others. I’ve performed across the UK and Europe and lead the classical-folk quartet Incantata Strings.

      Above all, I want you to enjoy making music and feel proud of your progress.

      Violin lesson questions

      What age can children start?

      Many children can begin from around age five. Readiness depends on concentration, interest and a suitable instrument size. Contact us if you would like help deciding whether your child is ready.

      Do I need my own violin?

      You will need regular access to a suitable violin for practice. Ask us before buying so we can advise on size and setup, and contact us before your trial if you need guidance on what to bring.

      How do I choose the right size?

      Violin size depends on arm length and physical build rather than age alone. Your teacher or our shop team can help you choose an instrument that fits comfortably.

      Do I need to read music?

      No previous music reading is required. Notation is introduced gradually alongside listening, bowing and practical playing so you can use it as you learn.

      Can I work towards violin grades?

      Yes. Deborah can help you prepare for suitable graded exams if you want a structured goal. Exams are optional, and you can learn for enjoyment or performance instead.

      Where do lessons take place, and where can I park?

      Lessons take place at Cirencester Music Academy, 15 Dyer Street, Cirencester, GL7 2PP. If you are travelling from Siddington, South Cerney, Kemble, Fairford or another nearby community, please allow time to park and arrive for your lesson. Nearby parking includes the Waterloo car park (GL7 2PY) and Forum car park (GL7 1FN).
